Style ~ elegance and sophistication
I’m 57 years old, not dead. The fact that society thinks you should be wearing cardigans and pull-on polyester pants at 50 is alarming and infuriating. I had an encounter recently that shook me. I have always loved fashion and my downfall is clothing and as a minimalist, I am trying to work on this. I had an outfit on from Free People and I heard a comment from two adult women (term used loosely). “Why is she wearing that?” I immediately felt self-conscious and wanted to go change my outfit. Why do we do this to each other? What I wanted to do is ask them to check my tag in the back of my clothing and see if they found an age requirement for this particular pair of pants.
Society’s tendency to downplay the trendy dressing choices of the 50 plus community often stems from deeply ingrained stereotypes and misconceptions about age-appropriate behavior. These stereotypes can lead to unfair judgments and expectations that limit self-expression. However, fashion is a form of art and personal expression that transcends age. Embracing trendy styles at any age should be celebrated as it reflects an individual’s willingness to adapt to fashion trends while staying true to their own unique taste. Challenging these societal norms not only empowers individuals to express themselves authentically but also paves the way for a more inclusive and accepting perspective on fashion and age. After all, the style has no expiration date, and everyone should be free to wear what makes them feel confident and joyful.
Permission is granted to wear the leather pants! Just remember that fashion is about individuality and confidence, so the way someone carries themselves in an outfit matters more than their age!
