Voice

Voice (noun)

Sound uttered through the mouth of a living creature.

Voice (verb)

To give utterance or expression to; declare or proclaim.

I love looking up everyday words in the dictionary because you never know what an ordinary word might be hiding (I am a nerd like that.)  I have had the word “voice” on my heart a lot lately, due to the state of the world right now.  We are all dealing with Covid19 and all the voices are a bit overwhelming.  The voices from news media, social media platforms, local and federal governments, neighbors, friends and all people in between.

Finding your voice!

We all have something in common and that is a voice. How we differ is the way we use our voice. A recent trip through my social media page sent me on a downward spiral of sorts. I was bombarded with posts that were views of things of a political and personal nature, rules, no rules, to many rules, lack of rights, not enough rights and so on. You get where I am going with this. I saw a common theme among the posts (including mine.) These posts were all hijacked from someone else and we claim them as our voice. How do we find our own voices instead of pilfering others voices and pretending they belong to us.

Don’t let the noise of other opinions drown your own inner voice.

5 ways to find your own voice

  • Take time to hear your own voice
  • Unplug from all tech and distractions
  • Feel what your heart is telling you
  • Simplify your life
  • Focus on your dreams

Do you want your voice to just utter sound randomly (noun), or do you want your voice to be one that proclaims and declares your inner voice (verb)?

There is a voice inside of you that whispers all day long, “I feel that this is right for me, I know this is wrong.”  No teacher, preacher, parent, friend or wise man can decide what’s right for you; listen to the voice that speaks from inside you.

The next time you go to use your voice, make it your own and not someone else’s.
