Shopping Survivalist

Survivalist
A person who makes preparations to survive a widespread catastrophe, as an atomic war or anarchy, especially by storing food and necessities.

How are you surviving?

Our world has changed dramatically since March. Staying at home and isolating can really effect retail junkies. The routines that we all used to adhere to, do not look the same. The trips to the mall to purchase lots of material goods are a thing of the past. Realizing as the days and weeks pass that the need for all this stuff was really not necessary for our survival. The idea that we all need to go and purchase absurd amounts of retail to make our lives better is a lie.  In a recent blog post from Becoming Minimalist showed stats indicating that Americans are embracing the lifestyle of minimal, in a forced kind of way.  Impressive how  the stay at home order is making people look at their retail habits.

Covid Retail Stats!

  • Clothing down 78.8%
  • Electronics and appliances down 60.6%
  • Home furnishings down 58.7%
  • Sporting goods down 38%
  • Bars and restaurants down 29.5%

Survival Challenge

The sport of shopping has been dramatically impacted in the last few months, with the forced reflection on what is truly a need or a want. The stats show clearly that we are all paying close attention to our spending habits and exactly what is important during this epic time in our history. This is the biggest learning curve towards minimalism we could have ever hoped for. The fact that we are looking for things other than material possessions is a great start. Focusing on our families and creative ways to make memories is a leap into what life should look like. Challenge your family to keep this lifestyle going when we all return to normal life again.

The Challenge!

  • Do not return to shopping for 3 months
  • Make do with what you own now
  • Declutter what isn’t being used
  • Keep cooking at home and eat as a family
  • Remember the Jones-es down the street are broke! Who are the Jones-es anyway? <<<Add LINK HERE
  • Stay Unbusy

You’ve mastered survival mode now it’s time to live.
