Get Rid of Mental Clutter

Mental Clutter

The stuff that not only takes up space in our brain, but continues to live rent free as we feed, clothe, and otherwise sustain it.  It’s the stuff that sends us on all sorts of twists and turns and eventually leads us down a road that goes no where fast.

There are three things taking up space in our heads, and the biggest source of mental clutter are:

  • Guilt ~ This keeps us in the past.
  • Worry ~ Worry is always oriented toward the future, we somehow think that if we worry about what is to happen we can change it.  Worrying does not take away tomorrows’s trouble, it takes away today’s peace.
  • Negativity ~ A negative mind will never give you a positive life!  When you start to go down the road of negativity, choose a positive and grateful attitude and your mindset will change.

The Beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change so that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger but in wisdom, understanding and love.

Don’t dwell on what went wrong, instead, focus on what to do next.

The mental clutter we all have can easily be pushed out with a few distractions that can eventually be made into habits.

  • Exercise ~ Take time to move!  This doesn’t mean hard core workout, just get yourself outside and take the time to enjoy nature.
  • Set Goals ~ Goals will give you something to look forward to accomplishing.  The real value of setting goals is not the recognition or reward, its the person we become by finding the discipline, courage and commitment to achieve them.
  • Meditate ~ Take the time to sit and close your eyes, and just be!  What will you lose from meditating?  You will lose anger, anxiety, depression, and insecurity.  These are some great things to toss out of your mind.
  • Live with intention ~ It’s easy to drift through life.  It’s easy to chase every wind that comes your way.  But it’s also easy to be intentional about what we chase in life.  Instead of letting the wind blow you wherever, be intentional about where you are going.

Once the mental clutter is out, you can make room for more beneficial things.  Try to focus on positive things in your life.  The more positive things you focus on, the more positivity you’ll draw into your world.  Like attracts like!

Clutter is not just the stuff in your home.  It is anything that stops you from engaging in life.
