Every Rose Has Its Thorn!

The Rose Bush

The title of this post is a 1980’s throw back from the group poison.  When thinking about this post the song kept popping into my head.  (I have a lot of thinking time on quarantine.)  The actual virus looks like it has thorns all over it and is usually displayed in red, making it even more menacing.  This little submicroscopic infectious agent has made our lives unrecognizable and out of our control.  The challenges of this season can encompass us gently or hit us like a tornado or both at the same time.

Thorn

Something that wounds, annoys, or causes discomfort.

The Thorn

The definition of a Thorn is annoyance or discomfort.  This virus has added trials to our lives that we couldn’t have seen 6 months ago.  The thorn in our side is this virus and how it affects our lives on a hourly, daily and weekly basis.  The thorn is going to be with us for a while so we might as well deal with it.

Thorny Lessons

  • Learning Patience
  • Faith in God
  • Appreciate what we have
  • Finding the joy in the midst of chaos
  • Looking outside ourselves
  • Perseverance through pain
  • The goodness all around us
  • There is always something to be thankful for

The Rose

The rose is the product of careful pruning and care.  We will all have beautiful blooms once we make it through this season.  The more pruning we are subjected to will ensure that we will have more prominent blooms.  Will you have a prominent bloom or just a mediocre one?

Most needed supplies for best bloom

  • Pruning shears ~ will promote growth in your life by removing parts that don’t contribute to your growth
  • Gloves ~ to protect all the rough parts of your life
  • Fertilizer ~ to feed yourself with God’s word every day
  • Mulch ~ to keep the healthy stuff in
  • Good soil ~  will happen only if you feed it good food

We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.

Abraham Lincoln

P.S. Roses do not actually have thorns, they have what are called prickles and they are for defense against predators.
