7 day digital detox

The idea of a digital detox has been on my mind for a while, especially with the state of the world right now. I have found that my stress and anxiety levels are extremely high when I am fully engaged in all things digital.  implementing these strategies into my life  has made a huge difference and I am sharing them in hopes that it might effect you in a positive way too.

Day 1

Reduce your phone usage by turning phone off for the first hour and last hour of your day. Read, journal, relax with your favorite beverage during that time away from your phone.

Day 2

Turn your phone off for the morning. Make a coffee date with a friend or take a walk.

Day 3

Try giving yourself a break from your social media accounts and don’t check them first thing in the morning. Journal about the day ahead and how you plan on spending your day.

Day 4

Stay off your phone for the first half of the day. Find a park in your area that you can go for a walk and enjoy nature and try to just be intentional about what you are doing.

Day 5

Try to use social media for 15 minutes total. That free time will let you take a pottery or art class at your local art institute.

Day 6

The phone and social media only be used after the sun goes down. Take this time to realize how much time is actually wasted on our digital world and how it really isn’t that important.

Day 7

No digital use for 24 hours. Take this time to journal about how you feel and how freeing it is to not be a slave to social media.  Take a look at how you are feeling about the detox and how it has changed your view on your digital world.

Social media statistics

  • 70% of social media time is spent on mobile device
  • Social media users spend average of 135 minutes each day on their accounts
  • 219 billion people are using Facebook on a daily basis
  • The average person checks in on Facebook 5 or more times a day
  • Social media usage has increased 106% since 2016

I believe a digital detox is one of the healthiest things we can do to improve our lives. This has made a huge impact on how I see my life and the lives of those around me. I have a more positive outlook with less anxiety from reduction of my social media use.  I encourage you to try this and see if it makes a difference in your life. Leave a comment on how it has changed you or those around you.
