Win the day

“God takes every day seriously, so we should steward everyday as a gift from him.” ~ Mark Batterson

The year 2020 was one for the record books and I was honestly glad to see it go. I usually make a list of all the things I want to accomplish in the new year. I made no resolutions this year. I instead let go of a few distractions, to clear some space in my head to see what God would reveal to me. I read more than usual in January and one book that really stayed with me was “Win The Day” by Mark Batterson. The book really challenged me to change how I think about life goals. Ironically the book focuses on writing, but not exclusively. I heard God speak to me many years ago and the words were “write it down.” I had no idea what that meant, until years later when I decided to become a blogger about minimalism. I had no idea what I was doing and would get frequently overwhelmed. Then I read this quote. “Almost anybody can accomplish almost anything if they work at it long enough, hard enough and smart enough.”

Win The Day is the kick in the pants that I needed to go after my goals with God in the lead. I devoured this book and in every chapter was useful habits that are actually attainable. I want to live my life in a way that people can tell stories about. I want a legacy that my future generations will talk about and learn from it. I want to leave the world better than I found it.

7 habits to accomplish goals

  1. Flip the script~ If you want to change your life, start by changing your story.
  2. Kiss the wave~ The obstacle is not the enemy, the obstacle is the way.
  3. Eat the frog~ If you want God to the super, you’ve got to the natural.
  4. Fly the kite~ How you do anything is how you will do everything.
  5. Cut the rope~ Playing it safe is risky.
  6. Wind the clock~ Time is measured in minutes, life is measured in moments.
  7. Seed the clouds~ Sow today what you want to see tomorrow.

Our greatest regrets at the end of our lives won’t be the mistakes we made. They’ll be the moments we missed because we were to busy or too lazy. They will be opportunities we left on the table because we were to scared or too distracted.
