When I think of luxuries, I think of sports cars, exotic trips, diamonds and jewels, but the truth be told most American’s are spending a fortune on minor indulgences that actually add up to about $3500.00 a year. When I read what the list of indulgences were, I was shocked.
- Latte’s at our favorite coffee place is a great place to start. The average spent on a latte is $3.28 per day this adds up to $23.00 a week or $92.00 a month, or $1200.00 a year!
- Gym memberships that go unused are a a huge waste in America, the average gym membership is $39.00 a month so that is $468.00 a year!
- Eating lunch out costs an average of $20.00 a week which is $1040.00 a year! (and for many, it’s much more)
- Cable TV is an average of $103.00 a month that is $1236.00 a year!
If you add up these 4 luxuries you get $3944.00 a year!
Following the minimalist lifestyle can help you conquer these indulgences easily.
- Because your not spending so much of your time taking care of your stuff, you’ll have plenty of time to make your own coffee and lunch at home.
- You’ll be spending more time on experiences instead of in front of the TV, so dropping that cable package isn’t a big deal.
- Going to the gym won’t be a necessary anymore because you’re having experiences that get you moving instead of sitting around.
- The amazing thing is if we embrace minimalism, it will filter into all parts of our life making it more enjoyable instead of a chore. The embracing of less stuff will free up your finances, so life can be lived not endured.
We have traded our freedom for overfilled closets, and our passion for unnecessary maintenance. We have sacrificed life in pursuit of clutter. ~ Joshua Becker
