This years top 5 New Year’s Resolutions!
- Lose weight
- Get organized
- Spend less
- Enjoy life
- Get healthy
Ironically, every single one of these resolutions is directly tied to minimalism. By addressing just one, it will create a domino effect and make the rest fall into place. I’m going to start with #2 and break it down to show you how it actually effects everyone and everything in our lives.
Clutter in our homes has a huge negative impact on our health and well being.
What is lack of organization actually doing to us?
- 55 minutes a day are spent looking for things we own but cannot find.
- 80% of what we keep, we never use.
- We only wear 20% of the clothes we own, 80% of the time, and the rest remain hanging in the closet “just in case”.
- 23% of adults pay bills late because they have misplaced the bill.
A cluttered environment limits our ability to focus. When we can’t focus, we can’t keep track of our things. When we can’t keep track of our things, like bills, they get paid late and end up costing us extra money. So, you (#3) SPEND LESS if you are organized, and if we spend less we can (#4) ENJOY LIFE more. If we enjoy life more, we can concentrate on (#5) GETTING HEALTHY, and if we concentrate on getting healthy we (#1) LOSE WEIGHT! There it is! Everything is tied to getting organized.
The first rule of a minimalist lifestyle is getting rid of unwanted or unnecessary clutter. Here a few things to help you get started de-cluttering.
- Clean out a drawer, medicine cabinet, or cupboard.
- Clean off one counter.
- Sort out junk mail.
- Clean out expired food.
Start your war on clutter with this small list and you’ll soon start feeling better when you see the progress you’re making. Even 10 minutes a day can help you achieve your goals and start that domino effect of organization.
